Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe

Saturday, January 24 at 8pm

William Eddins, conductor

George Li, piano

Griffes: The Pleasure Dome of Kubla Khan

Ravel: Piano Concerto

Dukas: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

Ravel: Daphnis and Chloe Suite

Does any music capture the miracle of morning better than Daybreak from Ravel’s sun-drenched suite from Daphnis and Chloe? Be dazzled by Ravel’s Piano Concerto, a self-portrait that features the piano as both an intimate voice and a bold force of nature, in the masterful hands of returning soloist George Li. Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice swirls magical melodies and spellbinding rhythms, made famous by the 1940 Disney classic Fantasia. The evening begins with the orchestra’s first-ever performance of Griffes’ hypnotic tone poem The Pleasure Dome of Kubla Khan.

Free Pre-Concert Conversations: Start 1 hour before the performance in the concert hall. Sponsored by The Ruth & J O Stone Foundation.
