Augusta Holmes: Irlande
Dvorak: Violin Concerto
Brahms: Symphony No. 4
Michael Francis unleashes one of the supreme works of the late 19th century, Brahms’ Symphony No. 4. Full of sweeping melodies and lush harmonies, the masterpiece captures Brahms at the height of his powers. Then Concertmaster Jeffrey Multer takes center stage as soloist in Dvořák’s luminous Violin Concerto, blending Bohemian folk charm with Romantic virtuosity. Rounding out the concert is Augusta Holmès’ tone poem Irlande, a woman’s plea for political freedom.
