Maximilian Hornung, cello

Beethoven: Grosse Fuge

Shostakovich: Cello Concerto No. 1

Mozart: Symphony No. 41, “Jupiter”

Mozart specialist Michael Francis conducts Mozart’s majestic Symphony No. 41, “Jupiter,” a stellar masterpiece that blends grace and power in Mozart’s final symphonic statement. Then TFO welcomes back soloist Maximilian Hornung for Shostakovich’s soul-stirring Cello Concerto No. 1. The concert begins with Beethoven’s Grosse Fuge, originally for string quartet, but today it symbolizes the composer’s genius at giving new life to an old form. Such a treat to hear it fleshed out in a version for orchestra.

Free Pre-Concert Conversations: Start 1 hour before the performance in the concert hall. Sponsored by The Ruth & J O Stone Foundation.
